PwC's BeWell Sports Day: Where fun and team spirit collide for a memorable day

When you think about PwC, you may not immediately think ‘fun’. Trust us, we definitely make time for fun around here. On November 18, over 100 Canberra employees joined the BeWell Sports Day. That’s right, we played sports ranging from netball to touch football and soccer (perfect if you’re fully wrapped up in the World Cup this year!), for the entire afternoon.

We caught up with Ben Coutts, a Director in Canberra’s Cloud & Digital team. He normally focuses on Defence technology but on Sports Day, it was about how many activities he could play. “I played all the games! Ultimate frisbee, netball, soccer and touch football. The highlight for me was the tug of war which we won,” he told us, going on to claim it was probably helped by the 21mm rugby boots he brought for the occasion.

You might be wondering if it was encouraged by the team leaders to participate in Sports Day. Ben says, yes and that his team leader was there cheering him on. Ben noted that “it was a lot of fun and a great way to meet some of the team, especially after our Covid years when we spent more time away from the office.”

Sports Day was so fun, Ben is already brainstorming new activities to add for next time. But what really mattered was that people left feeling more connected to each other. “Anything that brings us together is good to allow people to get to know each other, especially outside of the teams they work in day to day.”

At PwC, we focus on the quality of our work and we also make time to have fun together, get outside, and spend time with each other.
